Having trouble viewing this email? View it in your web browser   If you’re at all like me, you’re likely feeling things are quite dire right now, with Russia, a nuclear power, waging war against sovereign, independent Ukraine with atrocities against civilians mounting. And upon the release of the latest IPCC report,  UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said in the starkest terms that “we are on a fast track to climate disaster.” We know that fossil fuels are at the root of our problems: the root of despotisms in Russia and in Saudi Arabia and indeed the root of Koch brothers’ efforts to deform our own democracy, as well as the root of growing climate disasters.   Yet, we must not despair, we must act. Together.  Spring - with Earth Month in April - offers renewed hope and energy to keep building our movement to protect our climate and our democracy. We are heartened to see thousands of Third Actors joining us en masse to make transformative change. If you’ve ever wondered if you’re an organizer, now’s the time. All it takes is starting a conversation to help bring people together for common cause. Like pressuring the banks that are financing Russian oil and gas and the war in Ukraine. And writing to President Biden about “heat pumps for peace” - an idea that has gone from the drawing board to the White House in one month thanks to action from people like you. Here in our April Newsletter we’re sharing lots of ways you can take action this Earth Month, including a fun contest to submit your creative slogans, as well as some updates on our collective work, and a nice discount for a beautiful photography publication that highlights sustainable solutions at hand.  Read on for more details and resources. Use this new Third Act flyer (see image) to make it easy for you to spark conversations and help get more people to sign our Banking on our Future Pledge! You can print the flyer at home or in a copy shop (2 per page or 4 per page), and it includes a QR Code so people can easily sign the Pledge and join Third Act right from their phone. Take the flyer with you to family picnics, spring fairs, farmers markets, congregations, or other fun Earth Day events you are attending. Please sign the Pledge yourself and help get 10 people to join you. Download Flyer Heat Pumps for Peace Thank you to the nearly 1,000 Third Actors who sent an email to President Biden asking that he invoke the Defense Production Act to ramp-up production of electric heat pumps to send to Europe and accelerate their efforts to end their reliance on Russian natural gas and oil, which is bankrolling the war in Ukraine.  These letters have played a significant role in taking this idea from the drawing board to the White House in a month. If you haven’t already, please do send an email to President Biden and help push this over the finish line. Send Letter to Pres. Biden Third Act Slogan Contest! Our community is rich with brilliant and playful ideas about  messaging, slogans, and tag lines for Third Act and our climate and democracy campaigns: from Codger Power to Old & Bold, from Protect My Grandchildren’s Future to Put Wisdom to Work.  We want to harness your creative ideas and also learn what messages resonate with and inspire you. Please submit 1-3 slogan ideas here. We will feature and make available great slogans on stickers, buttons, posters and postcards, t-shirts, protest signs, email subject lines, social media…. and as a thank you, we will send some cool Third Act swag to up to 10 people whose entries we use.  Submit Your Slogan APRIL EVENTS Monthly All-In Call on April 27, 8 - 9 pm EDT/5 - 6 pm PDT - Join Third Act’s monthly all-in event with special guests, music, and movement highlights. Postcards to Voters Thank you to the more than 500 Third Actors who signed-up to write postcards to voters in Arizona and Pennsylvania to request their vote-by-mail ballots. Your enthusiastic response means that the Arizona voter addresses were all assigned ahead of schedule! There may still be some addresses to write to Pennsylvania voters (deadline to request addresses is April 15, deadline to mail postcards is April 20).
